Avalon Hill's B-17 Queen of the Skies Player's Guide - The Boardgamer

ADD TO WISHLIST >

The publisher of The Boardgamer magazine created five special issues devoted entirely to one game within the Avalon Hill catalog.  They were known as Unofficial Player Guides, but were considered the best collection of new information, variants, scenarios, rules variations, errata, inserts, and new articles written for these games.  Fans loved the materials, because it delivered new life into a game that was forgotten by Avalon Hill, but still cherished by the players.

This player's guide, the fifth in a series of five, is dedicated to the classic, aerial bomber wargame B-17: Queen of the Skies.  It is a must have for any fan of the classic game.

In this guide, published in 2004, the articles include:

  • Bombing The Med - Adding the 9th and 12th USAAF and the RAF No. 160 & No. 178 Squadrons
  • Command Decisions - In B-17: Queen of the Skies
  • In Search of Geographical Accuracy - Or, “Hey Navigator Where Are We?!”
  • The Winged Soldiers of ‘44 - A B-17: Queen of the Skies Variant

Seems to be missing a chart. I have the waist and tail gunner's damage, but none of the other crew damage charts. Help?

I'm sorry, but the charts you are referring to (other crew members damage, and the waist and tail positions) were never a part of this Player's Guide. Where within the guide do you have the waist and tail gunner's damage?

We would like to help, but just need to clarify what you think is missing, and if you are referring to the correct product?

Thanks,
PiPP

It wasn't resolved, because the user never replied. Whatever they were referring to never existed within the Boardgamer's B-17 guide, so they must have been thinking of some other source material. To triangulate that conclusion, there are no waist or tail gunner's damage charts within this reference guide, so whatever they were referring to is a mystery.

Hi again, well I can see how it is possible for the original user never replied, as I had forgotten I even asked a question. :) Very nice user's manual and got me back into the game. Thank you!!!

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
