The GASLIGHT Compendium

ADD TO WISHLIST >

Since it's initial publication in 2000, Glorious Adventures in Science Loosely Involving Generally Historical Times (G.A.S.L.I.G.H.T.) has been the standard by which all other sets of rules for Victorian Science Fiction games are judged.

The G.A.S.L.I.G.H.T. Compendium includes all the material from four books: G.A.S.L.I.G.H.T., Battles by G.A.S.L.I.G.H.T., Adventures and Expeditions by G.A.S.L.I.G.H.T.., and To Be Continued… by G.A.S.L.I.G.H.T.   In addition The Compendium includes new rules for airship fleet battles and more detailed rules for aerial vehicles in G.A.S.L.I.G.H.T. or Battles by G.A.S.L.I.G.H.T.. The vehicle hit charts have been revised and combined, and there are specific vehicle hit results for walking, driving, flying, and legged vehicles. The record sheets used during game play have been completely revised.

With the Compendium you can play Pulp and VSF games from the large battles, through skirmishes, to role playing.  It's all here in one volume.

Printed books are available from On Military Matters (http://onmilitarymatters.com/pages/dfindex.php).

I don't try to justify it. That is the price. If you think that is too much, don't pay it.

You are not paying for a bag of bytes, you are paying for the IP and a set of rules that is bar-none the most enjoyable and flexible rules you will ever play. For 40 years I have listened to gamers complain about the price of everything from paint and brushes to rules (not just my rules, all rules). Gamers will go see a crappy Hollywood movie for $20 with ticket, popcorn, etc. Amortize the cost of the rules over the number of times you use them. You will see that even at $48, GASLIGHT (and many other sets of rules) are a great value.

We provide the free starter rules so you can see if you like them before buying them.

Each of the four books that are part of the Compendium was $20. The Compendium has all the content from those four books plus a lot of new content. That's well over $80 shoved into a $48 book. If you like GASLIGHT you will use the rules...See more

Hey John S, I just bought the book and I have to say that I AM LOVING IT! Thanks for your hard work and creativity. I used to own the book in hard copy years ago, but after I moved to Harbin I lost it. Was thrilled to find it here.

If someone is wondering about the price, let me say that it is well worth it. The way I see it, most 40K players shell out that much for every new sourcebook and the In Her Majesty's Name line runs about the same if you add all the books up. Buy it; you won't regret it one bit.

Thanks! If you're ever in northeast China, look me up! Getting a good bunch of Russians, Chinese bandits, Kung Fu monks, and German Seebataillion to play. I'll keep a spot at the table open :-)

48.00 for 190 pgs of rules...SERIOUSLY???....how do you justify that price?

why not just make it pay what you want?...or make the pdf 15.00-20.00

Nice set of rules, read the introduction rules and it is fairly well favored on the VSF boards. BUT wow, this is really expensive for a set of rules long in the tooth as it is. Even for the whole compendium. the price actually puts me off buying this. Sorry Buck & Co.

The rules are OUTSTANDING! But I agree about the compendium. That's crazy for a pdf. I have been a fan for decades. I'd love to have the Compendium. but no way can I justify that price.

Thanks.

I don't mean to come off as rude, but why is the PDF for this so expensive, seems a bit much for a digital copy, especially when it's the same price as the physical book(minus shipping that is), if it was somewhere between 15 and 25 dollars I'd buy it in a heartbeat

The role-playing game was originally in a supplement called Adventures and Expeditions by GASLIGHT. I believe the individual supplements are still available from On Military Matters (http://onmilitarymatters.com/pages/dfindex.php) and LMW Works (lynne@lmwworks.com).

Is there any chance of just getting the RPG section? I personally don't play many miniatures game, and while yours looks like one that I would play (three units tops sounds fantastic), I'm really more interested in seeing just the RPG rules.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
